Low level of Lao Nam Ngum causes concern for dry season crops

VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) – The unusually low level of the Nam Ngum river is creating uncertainty about adequate water supplies for agriculture this dry season and is already affecting electricity generation at the Nam Ngum 1 hydro plant.

Referring to a recent interview with the Vice Governor of Vientiane province’s Thoulakhom district, Mr Bounthap Vongsay, the Lao Economic Daily newspaper said that since early last month the level of the Nam Ngum was 3-4 metres lower than usual for this time of year.
