Floods wreak havoc in Laos’ north

VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) – Some 125 families in three villages of Baeng district, Oudomxay province have been affected by floods after days of heavy rain, with property damage estimated at over 1 billion kip.
Director of the provincial Labour and Social Welfare Department, Mr Somfong Sengchanthala, told Vientiane Times that flooding on August 17 hit the villages of Nahuay, Huayla and Thakard.
Five houses in Nahuay village were damaged, and many roads around the district were cut off with farmland and livestock also affected. Authorities are providing essential supplies to the affected families and are now assessing the cost of damage to farms.
