Lao ministry eyes expansion of energy sector

VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) – The Department of Energy Management in the Ministry of Energy and Mines plans to modernise the power system and increase its overall capacity by installing additional hydro-power plants that utilise the best and latest technologies.

Speaking at a two-day workshop titled Business Lessons for Power Industry Improvement, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines Mr Thongphat Inthavong said the construction of power plants is an important part of the country’s endeavours to become a major regional supplier of electricity.
