Cost of farmed fish exceeds price set by Lao government
VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) – The price of farmed fish on sale in Vientiane markets is now higher than the price set by the government after many fish farmers suffered losses during the recent floods.
Adding to their woes are the higher costs they incur in raising fish.
To protect consumers and prevent vendors from arbitrarily hiking prices, in May the Vientiane Industry and Commerce Department announced that farmed fish could not be sold for more than 20,000 kip per kg. But the market price has now risen to 23,000-25,000 kip.
