Laos’ Inflation rate jumps to 3% in July
VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) – The Consumer Price Index (CPI) continues to rise in Laos despite the government’s expanded measures to tackle the rising price of goods in markets.
According to the Lao Statistics Bureau, the CPI reached 107.64 points in July, putting the annual inflation rate at 3 percent compared to the same period last year.
Inflation has risen since March this year, driven by factors relating to natural disasters including floods and drought and epidemics of pests and diseases, which have destroyed crops and killed livestock. This resulted in short supply of some food staples, and market demand has driven up prices.
