Lao NA inspection unearths over 150 duplicate land titles

VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) – Some 153 land titles have been found to be duplicates as a result of the National Assembly’s recent inspection, a senior lawmaker has confirmed.
Landholders attempted to use the duplicate land titles as collateral to obtain loans from banks and other financial institutions, but the consequences of this have resulted in bitter land disputes across the country.
NA members debated the matter yesterday, blaming the authorities for playing a role in the process of duplicate land titles.
