Confiscated timber in Laos sold at auction
VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) – Bids to purchase wood that was seized after being harvested illegally have generated more than 170.8 billion kip in revenue, the latest government report shows.
Following a prime ministerial order that was issued in May 2016 banning the export of unfinished wood products and cracking down on illegal operations, officials confiscated more than 75,240 cubic metres of wood and an additional 287.4 tonnes were put up for bid and sold.
